木本植物有性雜交生殖生物學是從植物胚胎學在樹木育種中的應用發(fā)展而成的綜合性學科。它以傳統(tǒng)植物胚胎學、細胞學、生物化學等學科的知識與技能為基礎，以植物生殖生物學的研究內(nèi)容為中心，以現(xiàn)代新儀器和新技術(shù)為手段研究木本植物有性雜交可配性的機理，同時探索克服雜交障礙的細胞生物學技術(shù)，以達到挽救雜種為目的。因此，《木本植物有性雜交生殖生物學圖譜（英文版）》具有鮮明的特色，它形象地將楊樹和杉木等我國重要造林樹種有性雜交的胚胎發(fā)育過程展示在人們面前，它揭開了有性雜交成功和失敗的秘密，直觀地顯示了克服雜交障礙的生物技術(shù)的流程。《木本植物有性雜交生殖生物學圖譜（英文版）》是一本兼具植物生殖生物學基礎理論知識和現(xiàn)代生物技術(shù)應用于樹木有性雜交育種的實踐性很強的書?；谒軓姷膶I(yè)性，它是一本奉獻給植物生殖生物學家和樹木育種學家的書；同時，它是一本既重視基礎理論，又反映新進展的書，所以很適合作為大學生物專業(yè)和林業(yè)專業(yè)學生學習植物胚胎學、細胞生物學技術(shù)和樹木育種學的輔助教材；由于此書用英文寫成，所以國外同行也可閱讀。本《圖譜》含80個圖版，700多幅照片，其中彩版36版， 黑白44版。內(nèi)容包括： I. 楊屬遠緣雜交生殖生物學。展示了雜交親本種子發(fā)育的一般規(guī)律;組間和屬間有性雜交從傳粉、受精至胚胎發(fā)育的過程; II.杉木屬遠緣雜交生殖生物學。證明了杉木與柳杉屬間雜交的可配性；揭示了杉木與側(cè)柏科間雜交的不可配性。III.細胞生物學技術(shù)在樹木育種中的應用。1.顯示了用含未成熟胚的胚珠離體培養(yǎng)技術(shù)克服楊屬組間和屬間雜交中胚的敗育，成功地獲得了雜種苗的過程；2.展示了為克服木本植物不能發(fā)生受精作用而采用雌雄配子體外受精技術(shù)。從楊樹中分離出了生活的精細胞、胚囊和卵器；從松、杉、柏中分離出了生活的雌雄配子并誘導其進行了初步體外融合。
